Herniated Disk
A herniated disk, also known as a slipped disk, is one of the most common conditions to affect the spine. While it can occur anywhere along your spine, it most frequently occurs in the neck or lower back. Disks are essentially small cushions that sit between each of the vertebrae in your spine.
When a disk herniates or slips, the disk ruptures. This allows the nerve center to move and become pinched between the vertebrae, causing intense pain and discomfort. You may have a herniated disk if you’re experiencing back pain, numbness, or a tingling sensation in either of your arms or legs. You may also notice shooting pains when you make sudden movements while coughing or sneezing.
Our team at Premier Chiropractic Solutions will perform an orthopedic and neurological exam to see if it is safe and/or beneficial for you to get an adjustment. If necessary, we may refer you for additional medical tests and screenings to better diagnose the severity of your herniated disk. These tests can include X-rays, MRIs, or CAT scans. They are all non-invasive procedures, but they will help our chiropractors correctly identify and treat your condition.
The majority of herniated disks do not require surgery. Our chiropractors may prescribe non-surgical treatments such as XYZ adjustment, the Ring Dinger®, rest, physical therapy, and even anti-inflammatory medications to help alleviate your pain. If you do require surgery, our chiropractors will discuss the different types of surgical options available to you and answer any questions you may have.
